FACULTY POSITION
Cultural Anthropology
NYU Shanghai
NYU Shanghai seeks to hire an early to mid-career scholar in Cultural Anthropology whose work takes up ethnography and other forms of anthropological inquiry in creative and critical ways. Candidates should have an appreciation of recent debates and conceptual turns in the field of anthropology alongside a grasp of the historical dimensions of the discipline demonstrated in their scholarship. The search is open to all sub-disciplines (medical, visual, economic) and all geographic areas, although scholars with concentrations in areas other than China are of particular interest.
Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. and will have a record of scholarship in their field. Teaching experience and a commitment to undergraduate education are essential, and a willingness to incorporate aspects of a four-field approach to teaching is desirable. This position is part of an initiative to create a strong program in the social sciences, through several faculty hires, with the aim of establishing research programs that relate strongly to those at other NYU campuses. The appointment could begin as soon as September 1, 2018, pending administrative and budgetary approvals.
The terms of employment in NYU Shanghai are comparable to U.S. institutions with respect to research start-up funds and compensation, and they include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may also spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU Global Network, engaging in both research and teaching.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, and electronic copies of up to five relevant publications. To complete the online process, applicants will be prompted to enter the names and email addresses of at least three referees. Each referee will be contacted to upload a reference letter. Review of applications will begin October 16th and will continue until the position is filled.
