The Department of Education and Culture in the Faculty of Social Studies at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the field of either educational anthropology or educational psychology, to begin on April 1, 2018.
The department seeks scholars who can teach classes in either educational anthropology or educational psychology, as well as more general education classes including “freshman seminar” and “junior-senior seminar.” Teaching at the graduate level will eventually be expected.
As administrative duties and most classes will be conducted in Japanese, fluency in the Japanese language is required. The ability to teach in English is also essential.
The successful candidate will be a junior scholar who is committed to both academic research and effective teaching, challenging and nurturing department students. In addition, successful candidates will be expected to help direct the department’s international programs, organizing and conducting overseas study tours on an annual or biannual basis.
A PhD in Anthropology, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline is required.
Submit one PDF file with the following (in order): 1. a cover letter, 2. a curriculum vitae that includes academic background, work history, publications, and two references, 3. a brief statement of teaching philosophy and current research plans. In addition, submit three PDF files of representative articles or book chapters.
Applications must be received by August 4, 2017. Select candidates will be asked to sit for interviews and provide sample lessons. Final decisions will be made in late September 2017.
Pay is commensurate with Japanese university standards.
