About the opportunity
The University of Sydney invites applications from qualified individuals for appointment to a number of Junior Research Fellow positions in nineteenth and/or twentieth century international history, as part of Professor Glenda Sluga’s ARC Laureate Research Program in International History.
The positions will be part-time for terms from 6 months to 1 year. The precise duration of the fellowship will be negotiated depending on the number of successful applications overall. The earliest starting date is 1 July 2017, the latest completion date is 30 December 2019.
Funded by the Australian Research Council, the Laureate Research Program in International History is devoted to advancing our understanding of the international and internationalist origins of the global present. Led by Professor Glenda Sluga, this team of historians is investigating the international history of globalization from the perspective of people and ideas. These fellowships offer opportunities for early career researchers to develop networks and build research areas in a team environment as well as academic leadership in the specified research theme areas.

- International Economic History
- Women in International History
- The Environment in International History
- Sites of International Memory
- International Orders
- International historiography
- International Pasts and Futures
To be successful in this role you will have:
- completed or submitted a PhD in History, or a related discipline relevant to one of the prioritised research themes.
- demonstrated an outstanding capacity for research..
- (ideally) facility in at least one language other than English.
Your role will include:
- working towards the submission of high quality scholarly research publications.
- contributing actively to the development of research networks and collaborations in the context of existing Laureate programs, with our partners in the UK, Europe, China and North America.
- assisting the organisation of at least one international symposium or workshop already on the Laureate program.
Women appointed under this scheme will also be considered for ‘Kathleen Fitzpatrick Junior Research Fellowships,’ which provides limited research funds for use in conjunction with our collaborative schemes.
