The Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences (HPSS) at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) invites applications for a full-time one-year term appointment starting in fall of 2017.

The suitable candidate will have undergraduate teaching experience and a broad background in East Asian, preferably Chinese, history, and a PhD in hand by start date.
HPSS (http://www.risd.edu/Academics/HPSS/) is a multidisciplinary department within the Division of Liberal Arts. Our students are art and design majors who take one third of their courses in the Liberal Arts.
The full-time faculty teaching load is six undergraduate courses a year. In addition to teaching, full-time faculty are expected to maintain a professional practice, serve on college committees, advise students, participate in curriculum development and other departmental activities and projects, and contribute to the vibrancy of the intellectual life of the college.
The successful candidate will teach a seminar class (15 students), two introductory classes (21 students), two lecture classes (30 students), and a short intensive course during Wintersession (20 students).
