Southwestern University, History
Visiting Assistant Professor of History
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Texas, United States |
Position: | Visiting Assistant Professor |
Southwestern University, a national liberal arts college in the Austin metro area, invites applications for a one-year, benefits-eligible position as a Visiting Assistant Professor in History. This position replaces multiple temporary leaves, so we will consider applicants from any field, with a preference for candidates whose expertise goes beyond the areas we already cover (East Asia, Latin America, Western Europe, and the US). The position requires teaching one section of World History (preferably to 1500) and a combination of regional surveys and thematic seminars drawn from the candidate’s areas of expertise, including some accessible to incoming first-years, in a 3-3 load. The History Department is wide-ranging in its geographical coverage and interests, and its five current faculty members participate in several interdisciplinary programs (including Environmental Studies, Race and Ethnicity Studies, Feminist Studies, International Studies, and Latin American and Border Studies). We look for similar breadth in our candidates for visiting positions.
Qualifications preferred include Ph.D. completed by time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience is desirable. Candidates who have a strong commitment to enhancing diversity in academia are also preferred.
