Inaugurated in the fall of 2001, Macaulay Honors College is dedicated to providing outstanding educational opportunities for academically gifted students from the five boroughs of New York City and beyond. The Macaulay Honors College program includes generous financial support for each student, including a full-tuition merit scholarship and an Opportunities Fund grant. In addition, the Honors College offers unique interdisciplinary seminars focusing on New York City, training in instructional technology, dedicated mentors and advisors, prominent visiting professors, internships, study abroad experiences, and a Cultural Passport that provides entrée to the vast cultural resources of New York City. Macaulay operates in partnership with eight CUNY campuses: Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Hunter, John Jay, Lehman, Queens, and Staten Island; graduates are awarded a degree jointly conferred by Macaulay and their home campus. Currently, Macaulay Honors College has approximately 2,032 University Scholars enrolled on the eight campuses.
Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for managing the administrative and financial operations of the College, including the daily business and accounting operations, coordinating, planning and reporting on such MHC financial activities as purchasing, accounts payables and receivables, and banking/debit card relationships, and serving as a liaison to the finance offices of the Graduate Center and the University. S/he will prepare reports for the Dean and various MHC directors, and manage the financial aspects of the Macaulay Honors Foundation and serve as staff to the MHC Foundation Board’s Audit, Finance and Investment Committees.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Recommends and implements strategies and plans to help assure the College attains its financial objectives
- Works with the Dean on planning, implementing and monitoring the University-wide Macaulay Honors College budget
- Supervises, directs and oversees the accounting functions for the Foundation and auxiliary enterprises
- Prepares various monthly and special reports for various directors and the college
- Collaborates with internal and external offices and programs in budgetary initiatives, including audited financials for Macaulay Honors College Foundation
- Prepares reports for donors and works with Foundation and others to obtain interim financial reports in a timely manner
- Reviews, assesses, and plans the investment strategy for Macaulay endowment accounts
- Manages Macaulay’s tax-levy budget, including working with the appropriate offices to obtain timely and accurate budget information
- Recommends and implements solutions to improve efficiencies in MHC administrative operations
- Oversees all purchasing and accounts payable transactions through the CUNYfirst system
- Administers credit card (P Card, T Card and debit card) usage
- Acts as a liaison between the senior colleges and CUNY Central regarding MHC inquiries and responds to requests from the University Budget Office and Office of the University Controller on MHC financial matters;
- Responsible for internal control banking and investments
- Responsible for college compliance with appropriate University, City, State, Federal fiscal policies and regulations, including GAAP, FASB and GASB
- Coordinates the college’s banking relationships and serves as a treasurer and investments manager
- Oversees revenue management, including projection of revenue targets, budget preparation, and budget expenditures and modifications
- Reviews the financial components of business proposals and coordinates financial analysis of various activities and funding programs at the College
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Oversees all administrative operations, supervising the CSM manager (IT), a coordinator of intercampus operations, a building superintendent, office manager and two finance specialists.
- Directs the budgeting function of the College as well as related accounting operations.
- Formulates, prepares and oversees financial plans and budgeting processes
- Manages all financial reporting and compliance activities, including preparation of financial statements, statistical reports, and funding determinations
- Liaisons with internal and external financial auditors as well as various College, University and governmental representatives
- Oversees analytical reporting and provides strategic financial guidance to support decisions regarding resource allocations and operation planning
- Coordinates activities among Macaulay, CUNY and GC, including HR, financial management, purchasing, and payroll
- Coordinates with business offices in Macaulay’s eight consortial campuses
- Advises the Dean on matters related to the fiscal operations of the college
- Oversees capital budget requests, working with CUNY Capital and Facilities planning on approved projects
- Performs related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree and eight years’ relevant experience required.
OR
MBA or Masters’ degree in Finance or Accounting; and/or a CPA license
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate should have:
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, preferably within an academic institution
- Familiarity with CUNY budget and finance policies as well as those of New York state and City
- Working knowledge of accounting software
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to present oral and written reports
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to form collaborative relations with all members of the college and CUNY community
- Demonstrated initiative, strong management skills and the ability to think in an innovative manner regarding financial matters that impact the college
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with relevant computer software (i.e. accounting software and Excel)
