Institution Type: | College / University |

Position: | Post-Doctoral Fellow |
The East Asian Studies Program invites applicants for a two-year ASIANetwork-Luce Postdoctoral Teaching fellow in East Asian Studies to begin in August 2017. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses related to Chinese politics and/or Chinese foreign relations, broadly defined. Experience or interest in teaching introductory Chinese language is desirable, but not required.
The East Asian Studies Program is a newly organized interdisciplinary program at Austin College. In keeping with the mission of this program, the potential to teach about East Asian politics regionally is highly desired, as is the ability to connect with other interdisciplinary programs at the college: Environmental Studies, Gender Studies, Global Management, Leadership Studies, Non-Profit Organizations and Public Service, and Public Health.
Austin College is a selective national liberal arts college with an enrollment of 1300 undergraduates located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas. Founded in 1849, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original charter and name, the college is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Recognized nationally for academic excellence in the areas of international education, pre-professional training, and leadership studies, Austin College is one of 40 schools profiled in Loren Pope’s influential book Colleges That Change Lives.
The teaching fellow will teach two undergraduate courses each semester, pursue an active research agenda, and participate fully in the intellectual and cultural life of the college. The fellow’s teaching duties will be determined according to their expertise and the needs of the college and include at least two courses that the candidate will be free to design according to their interests. In addition, we expect the Fellow to participate in the East Asian Studies Program and any other relative academic unit, by mentoring students and helping with curriculum development. The Fellow will also attend the ASIANetwork conference with other Austin College faculty in Spring 2018 and Spring 2019 and participate in a panel with other ASIANetwork-Luce Postdoctoral Fellows at both conferences.
The Postdoctoral Fellowship is a full-time position that will provide health insurance and other eligible benefits available to all full-time employees. The Fellow will have access to faculty development funds and support for attending the ASIANetwork conference. Qualified applicants must have earned a Ph.D. from a North American university no earlier than Spring 2014. Applicants who are ABD may be considered, provided that they have a scheduled completion date prior to the beginning of the fellowship year verified by their graduate advisor.
Austin College is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse faculty, staff and student body and welcomes all applicants. Must be legally authorized to work without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
