The David Wilkie Scholarship for the Study of Spanish Art
The School of History of Art at the University of Edinburgh and the Centro de Estudios Europa Hispánica in Madrid (CEEH) are delighted to announce the creation of the David Wilkie Scholarship for the Study of Spanish Art, commencing in the academic year 2017/18.
This doctoral scholarship will cover the University of Edinburgh’s Home/EU/International tuition fees for 3 years (and a fourth year if required), together with an annual stipend of £14,000 for living costs and travel. The scholarship supports research on Spanish art and visual culture, including its reception by British artists, critics and collectors. Proposals relating to the period between the late seventeenth and the twentieth century would be particularly welcome.
The scholarship is named after David Wilkie, the early nineteenth-century Scottish artist and pioneering traveller who found inspiration in Spain and was the dedicatee of Washington Irving’s Tales of the Alhambra.
Eligibility:
The candidate will typically hold a first or upper second class Honours degree in History of Art at undergraduate level and a Masters degree. The candidate should have already explored some aspects of Spanish art and culture in their previous study, and must have excellent competence in English and Spanish.
Informal enquiries should be directed to ecaresearchdegrees@ed.ac.uk
Selection:
The History of Art selection panel will meet in March 2017 to review the scholarship applications. All applicants will be contacted with the outcome by the end of March. The successful applicant will be announced on the University of Edinburgh and the CEEH website at the start of the academic year.
