DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE CULTURE
The Department of Chinese Culture is a developing academic department within the Faculty of Humanities. Its main charge is to offer high-quality teaching and research programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Chinese Classics, Literature, History, Philosophy, Religion and Arts. Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Bilingual Interdisciplinary Chinese Studies, a minor degree programme in Chinese Culture, and university-wide general education courses. Chair Professor of Chinese Culture (Ref. 16101805)
The appointee will be required to (a) provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching and service in the Department; (b) facilitate the conduct of innovative and original research of high quality and impact, and promote cross-disciplinary/departmental research with optimal use of research funds; (c) engage in improving the research quality of the Department, promoting research collaboration, securing external research grants, and the involvement of policy research and consultancies in the areas of Chinese Culture and related disciplines; (d) be actively involved in teaching and curriculum development; (e) raise the Department’s international visibility and strengthen its global network; (f) engage in supervising research students; and (g) contribute to administration of all levels.
Applicants should have (a) a PhD degree normally in Chinese Culture or a closely related field, and evidence of eminent scholarship in Chinese Culture and substantial relevant experience in a senior academic position; (b) an international reputation in research and scholarship, and demonstrated leadership in any one or more of the specialist areas of Chinese Classics, Literature, History, Philosophy, Religion and Arts; (c) a strong record in attracting research funding; (d) a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching; (e) a global perspective, proven qualities of academic leadership and a demonstrated ability of building up a strong team of faculty members with different research and cultural backgrounds; and (f) good knowledge of global and local higher educational environment.
