History: The Department of History at University of Hawai’i, Mānoa invites applications for an assistant or associate professorship in the history of modern Korea. Position Number 0083322, full-time, tenure-track, 9-month position to begin August 1, 2017, subject to the availability of funds and position clearance.
Duties: The successful candidate will teach lower-division survey courses, and upper-division and graduate courses in area(s) of specialization; advise undergraduate and graduate students; maintain an active agenda of scholarly research and publication; participate in service work; and fulfill other duties assigned by the department chair.
Assistant Professor minimum qualifications: PhD in hand by August 1, 2017, granted by a university of recognized standing, in history or closely related field in the humanities or social sciences, with an emphasis on modern Korea. Research competence in Korean language and evidence of strong historical research capabilities. Associate Professor additional minimum qualifications: Demonstrated university teaching experience; hold the rank of Associate Professor; evidence of scholarly achievement comparable to peers at research universities. Desirable qualifications for both ranks: demonstrated extensive teaching experience; research focus on transnational or comparative studies which situates Korea in global context; national and international scholarly engagement, particularly in Korea and the Pacific.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
