The Department of History at Duquesne University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of public history with expertise in American/U.S. history. The area of specialization in public history is open. In American/U.S. history the Department prefers a scholar specializing in African-American, labor, or local history, as well as ethnic studies, but will consider other historical sub-fields.
The new faculty member will teach specialized graduate classes in public history, upper division classes in their areas of expertise, as well as undergraduate surveys in U.S. history and 20th-century world history - which are part of the University Core Curriculum. The teaching load is 3-3 under a nine-month contract beginning August 2017.
In addition, teaching responsibilities may include: PHST 601: Introduction to Public History; PHST 513: Cultural Resources Management; HIST 203: U.S. to 1877; HIST 204: U.S. since 1877; HIST 151: Shaping of the Modern World; lower and upper division undergraduate courses within fields of specialization; graduate public history courses in areas of expertise; advising/mentoring both undergraduate majors and graduate students; supervising public history internships.

Required Attributes:
Ph.D. in public history, history, or related discipline
Scholarship in American/U.S. public history
Teaching experience at the graduate and/or undergraduate level in public history and/or American/U.S. history
A research program of demonstrated potential
