The Institute of Art History at the University of Graz is among the earliest academic institutions in this field in German-speaking countries and thus looks back at a long tradition. In both research and teaching, the entire breadth and diverse concerns of the discipline are represented in their wide-ranging temporal, geographical and methodological dimensions. Parallel to further developing long-standing competencies and skills of art historical scholarship, faculty and staff are also engaged in reflecting on and accentuating that unterstand art history in terms of visual studies ("Bildwissenschaft") and theory.
The Institute of Art History at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a
Professor (f/m) of Modern Art
(40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date October 1st 2017 )
The person we seek to appoint will possess the required expertise to conduct research and teach classes in the wide temporal and topical range of modern and contemporary art. Existing cooperations with museums and cultural institutions both in Graz and its environs are to be cultivated and expanded. The professor holding this position will launch and carry out research projects on historical and systematic issues regarding the interpretation and meaning of modern and contemporary art; these projects will incorporate collaborative work with colleagues both within and beyond the disciplinary scope of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Thus, the appointee will contribute to shaping the research profile of the University of Graz in the context of the research core areas "The Cultural Histroy and Interpretation of Europe" ("Kultur- und Deutungsgeschichte Europas") and/or "Heterogeneity and Cohesion" ("Heterogenität und Kohäsion").
Requirements for employment
- Completion of an appropriate university degree at a university in Austria or abroad
- Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Art History (modern and contemporary)
- Excellent scientific qualification in research and teaching for the relevant subject and profile of the professorship
- Work experience abroad after Master's degree
- Competence in subject-specific project acquisition
- Management and leadership experience
- Gender mainstreaming competence
The candidate is expected to demonstrate his/her educational and didactic skills.
Classification
Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): A1
Minimum salary
The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR 67.797,80 gross per year (14 monthly salaries). Salary subject to negotiation.
