The Rutgers University Douglass Residential College (DRC) in New Jersey seeks an innovative, collaborative, experienced professional to serve as its next Assistant Dean of Academic Programs. Founded in 1918, Douglass is the only women’s residential college in the nation located within a comprehensive public research university. The roughly 2,400 Douglass students benefit from both a small-college atmosphere dedicated to women’s success and leadership as well as access to the rich educational and research resources of Rutgers University – New Brunswick, New Jersey. Today, Douglass is the leading model for women’s education, incorporating a culture of women’s advancement within one of the finest universities in the country. The Assistant Dean will begin her/his tenure during an exciting period as DRC set a new strategic plan to highlight educational excellence, student leadership and development, and advancement in STEM and global education for undergraduate women. The Assistant Dean will have a passion for women's education in order to guide curriculum and programs with a gendered understanding. The academic Douglass course is offered through the well known Women and Gender Studies department at Rutgers through the School of Arts and Sciences.
The Assistant Dean of Academic Programs provides direction, vision, strategic implementation of academic and co-curricular programs, and supervision of academic programs and staff at DRC in the following areas: (1) the signature Global Village themed living learning communities, with corresponding academic courses (one course for each living-learning community) (2) the Douglass course serving approximately 500 students a year in approximately 15 course sections in the fall semester/ 8 course sections in the spring semester) that introduces students to social inequalities; (3) the Voorhees Mentor course offering academic leadership opportunities in the Douglass course (4) student scholarships, fellowships, prizes, and awards; (5) general Douglass housing in single-gender residence halls; (6) college data collection and reporting; (7) the DRC Honors College program providing special learning opportunities for students in the Rutgers Honors College; (8) development and vision for a new Honors Program at DRC; and (9) the creation of new programs that integrate STEM and Global development and justice issues.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Create a coherent vision for the academic programs to tie them into an integrated education for Douglass students, and to bring fresh and new visions for innovative learning.
• Overall direction of staff and curriculum vision for the Douglass foundational mission course and its integration with the strategic priorities for Douglass and its students.
• Overall supervision of staff and vision for the Global Village and its curriculum and mission for global and local awareness.
• Leadership of a faculty advisory committee.
• Oversight of staff that administers Douglass scholarships, study abroad, fellowships, prizes and other awards to Douglass students. This involves careful oversight of staff working with awards according to donor specifications and adherence to Rutgers’ policies, audits, and record keeping.
• Direct housing assignments for general Douglass housing (single gender) and the Global Village through this office in coordination with Rutgers units.
• Report annual data on Douglass enrollment, housing, scholarships/fellowships/study abroad/prizes, and program/course assessment is essential.
• Work collaboratively and develop new partnerships with Rutgers faculty and relevant centers and units at Rutgers.
• Work with Douglass staff who deliver additional student programs or administer services to students to ensure integration and coordination of the co-curricular and curricular learning outcomes of DRC.
• Responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans, budget development and oversight, obtaining internal and external support for programs, and undertaking assessment activities in collaboration with the DRC leadership team.
• Serve as liaison to key Rutgers partners including the Rutgers’ Institute for Women’s Leadership, the School of Arts and Sciences Women’s and Gender Studies department, the GAIA center, and develops working relationships with other key units at Rutgers New Brunswick.

Minimum Education & Experience:
• Requires a master’s degree in a specific academic discipline, global affairs, women’s and gender studies, sociology, higher education, student development or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of student development and academic theories, methodologies, and current practices in higher education.
• Also requires a minimum of three years’ experience in an academic, residence, judicial, student life/activities, career development, higher education administration and/or college – level teaching required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Prior experience with curriculum development and academic leadership highly desired. Preference for experience in women’s and gender studies, or related field.
• Knowledge and understanding of women’s education.
• Prior experience with curriculum development and/or academic administration.
• Knowledge of budget management.
• Requires excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have standard office computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD highly preferred.
• Women’s Studies or related area highly preferred.
• Experience with student advising, relationship development with stakeholders and the ability to collaborate with individuals from different departments, programs, and colleges preferred.
