Brown University, Classics
Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Classics
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Rhode Island, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor |
The Department of Classics at Brown University announces a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will have demonstrated research interests in the Latin and/or Greek literature of the first through the third centuries C. E. inclusive. We understand "literature" to embody a wide range of registers and traditions. In this respect, the successful candidate will complement and extend the research range of current Brown faculty. In addition to courses in his or her specialty, the successful applicant will teach more widely in Latin and Greek languages and literatures and offer courses in translation. Evidence and promise of success in college-level teaching and in research are prerequisites for this position, as is the Ph.D., which must be in hand by July 1, 2017.
Candidates should submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, and a sample of scholarly writing (no more than thirty pages) to the Department's Interfolio site, https://apply.interfolio.com/36434, to which three letters of recommendation should also be sent directly by the applicants' recommenders. Applications received by November 1, 2016 will be assured of full consideration. The Department plans to begin contacting shortlisted candidates in December, 2016 and to conduct interviews with them via Webex videoconferencing as soon as possible thereafter and no later than mid-January, 2017.
