Assistant Professor: African Diaspora Studies
The Department of Africana Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in African Diaspora Studies to start in August 2017. Required qualifications include: Ph.D. in Africana Studies or in a closely related field by date of appointment; evidence of interdisciplinary and transnational approaches in scholarship and teaching; and demonstration of interest in the pursuit of external funding. Special consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated interest in transnational black experience, migration, community relations, and/or environmental health.
The successful candidate will carry a 2/2 teaching load (pre-tenure); teach general survey, upper division, and graduate courses; maintain regular high-quality publication; seek external funding; advise students; contribute to the governance of the department and the university; and support the community outreach mission of the department. Candidates will be asked during interview to discuss how the topics of diversity and inclusion will be incorporated into their teaching, research and service activities. The finalist for the position is required to complete an authorization for criminal background check.
The Africana Studies Department is a vibrant interdisciplinary academic unit focusing on the study of Africa and the global African Diaspora, including African American life.
