The Programs in European Studies and Russian/Post-Soviet Studies at the College of William and Mary invite applications for a one year, non-tenure-track position as Visiting Assistant Professor that will begin August 10, 2016. We seek an individual with expertise in Russian/Soviet History, who is also able to teach a core course in European Studies. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load.
We are two strong, interdisciplinary area studies programs within the interdisciplinary major of Global Studies at one of the best small public universities in the United States. The successful candidate will be expected to teach “Introduction to European Studies” and “Introduction to Russian and Post-Soviet Studies,” as well as courses in European or Russian/Soviet history in the Department of History. Research and teaching expertise in fields such as state socialism, the First and/or Second World Wars, post-socialist societies, migration, regionalism, and identity politics are particularly welcome. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment and a demonstrated interest in comparative and trans-regional scholarship and teaching.
