Position Details:
The Graduate Center (GC) defines the standard of contemporary graduate education: rigorous academic training and globally significant research. lt is recognized for outstanding scholarship across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, and is integral to the intellectual and cultural vitality of New York City. Through its extensive public programs, the Graduate Center hosts a wide range of events - lectures, conferences, book discussions, art exhibits, concerts, and dance and theater that enrich and inform.
The Office of International Students (OIS) at the Graduate Center seeks a Student Life International Student Manager. The incumbent will report to the Director of Student Services.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Oversees the office's operations and supervises two International Student Counselors and Graduate Student Assistants;
- Establishes and articulates policies and guidelines for OIS and international students to follow so as to ensure that the Graduate Center and international students are in compliance with all U.S. immigration regulations and procedures;
- Trains GC staff, Designated School Officials (DSO), and Alternate Responsible Officers (ARO) in certifying Department of Homeland Security (DHS) forms for F-1 and J-1 students, and in the preparation of reports, as required, for the DHS and its subsidiary offices and departments;
- Assists Executive Officers, faculty members, administrative staff, and representatives of other CUNY colleges with matters related to International Students;
- Counsels international students with special immigration status issues and concerns; advises students on a wide range of immigration status matters;
- Oversees all record-keeping procedures and practices as required by the DHS and its subsidiary divisions as well as internal office procedures;
- Serves as liaison with external organizations that provide services for international students;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Manages and coordinates services to support the success of international students.
- Creates goals and objectives that reflect Campus objectives, and evaluates performance and success
- Supervises staff and develops office policy to ensure efficient service delivery
- Drafts, recommends and implements policies and procedures on a variety of international student issues, such as admissions, health insurance, resident tuition, and English proficiency for international students
- Collaborating with student affairs colleagues, provides leadership in the development of international and diversity student activities and programs; serves as an advisor/mentor to international student organizations.
- Produces and presents relevant communications to international students, such as a handbook and orientation programs
- Oversees required activities in matters pertaining to government agencies and compliance, such as the US Department of Justice, the US Department of State, and the Internal Revenue Service
- Maintains relationships with College community, faculty and staff to provide additional support and to inform students of resources available to them.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate should have:
- Master's degree
- Knowledge of immigration regulations, regulations for F-1 and J-1 status students, and regulations pertaining to Designated School Officials
- Familiarity with SCT Banner, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Skills associated with cross-cultural advising and programming and exhibit sensitivity to persons of varied cultures
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, and attention to detail
