The Institute for Economic and Social History at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen invites applications for two positions to be employed (preferably) from April 1, 2016. You will find more detailed information on each position further below.

Position 1: Doctoral researcher and lecturer (pre-doc)
The part-time position (50%, currently 19.9 hours per week) is available for two years (pending budgetary approval); an extension becomes possible if further funding can be secured. The salary is defined according to the German E13 TV-L scale for public sector employees. The position is intended for the qualification of young scholars and offers the possibility to prepare and pursue a PhD project.
Duties: The position involves teaching (four hours per week during each term) and participation in the administrative tasks and research activities of the Institute. It is expected that an original research project is prepared and pursued.
Conditions of employment: Successful candidates have an excellent master degree in economic and social history or a neighboring discipline. Profound knowledge of the economic and social history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is expected, as well as fluency in English and at minimum basic German language skills. After one year of employment, candidates should be able to teach in German.

Position 2: Post-doctoral researcher and lecturer
The full-time position (currently 39.8 hours per week) is available for two years (pending budgetary approval); an extension becomes possible if further funding can be secured. The salary is defined according to the German E13 TV-L scale for public sector employees. Part-time employment can be considered. The position is intended for the further qualification of junior scholars and offers the possibility to pursue a second book project or habilitation.
Duties: The position involves teaching (six hours per week during each term) and participation in the administrative tasks and research activities of the Institute. The development of a post-doctoral research project is expected.
Conditions of employment: Successful candidates have written an excellent dissertation on a pertinent topic, or are close to finishing a dissertation (with an excellent masters’ degree already completed) in economic and social history or a neighboring discipline. Profound knowledge of the economic and social history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is expected, as well as fluency in English and at minimum basic German language skills. After one year of employment, candidates should be able to teach in German.
