The Comparative American Studies Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two years, beginning fall semester of 2016-2017, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and by a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The Comparative American Studies Program has 3.5 full-time faculty who approach the study of the United States with expertise drawn from many interdisciplinary fields, including American studies, ethnic studies, gender and sexuality studies, and media studies. The program has particular strengths in transnational approaches to Asian American studies, feminist studies, Latina/o studies, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer studies. The successful candidate will teach courses in the general area of Native American and Indigenous Studies. Areas of expertise are open, including (but not limited to): public policy, critical legal studies or performance studies. The Comparative American Studies Program is committed to interdisciplinary and theoretically informed intersectional pedagogy at the undergraduate level. Faculty are expected to integrate issues of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and citizenship within comparative and/or transnational frames throughout their teaching. The teaching load will be two courses per year including an introductory course in NAIS each year and a course in the incumbent’s area of expertise.
Qualifications: Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D degree awarded no earlier than January 1, 2013 or in hand by July 1, 2016. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
Compensation: Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
