The Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time position in the history of the Indian Ocean World, at either the assistant professor or associate professor level. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in scholarship, a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and an interest in teaching courses on the history of the Indian Ocean world as well as those that will support students in related interdisciplinary programs such as Global Studies, African Studies, Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, Religious Studies, or Women, Gender, and Sexuality. Anticipated start date is August 25, 2016.
Applicants at the assistant professor rank must be on track to receive a Ph.D. in the relevant field by May 2016 and must hold a PhD at the time of appointment, although those still at the ABD stage in August 2016 may be appointed as acting assistant professor. Applicants at the associate professor rank must hold a Ph.D. at the time of application and must have a strong publication and teaching record.
