UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH
The Department of Music of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for two faculty po-sitions to begin September 1, 2016, pending budgetary approval. The appointments will be made in the tenure stream at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
Positions: Scholars pursuing innovative research at the forefront of musicology
Qualifications: Candidates with a Ph.D. who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and teaching
Duties: Pursue research and publication, direct theses and dissertations, participate actively in the profession, teach graduate and undergraduate courses in musi-cology; share in administrative responsibilities
We are particularly interested in candidates whose interests include sound studies, media and technology, digital humanities, critical theory, performance studies, cultural studies, queer studies, or other innovative areas of research. We seek scholars whose expertise complements that of the current faculty, and who engage across sub-disciplines. Success-ful candidates will help set a vision for the graduate program in musicology.
The Department of Music offers the Ph.D. in composition/theory, ethnomusicology, jazz studies, and musicology, and the B.A. in music. Graduate students engage with a broad range of histories, methodologies, and analytical techniques and interact across sub-disciplines. The successful applicants will engage with other outstanding departments, the Humanities Center, and programs across the University such as the Cultural Studies Program and Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies Program.
