Within this setting, the Department of Writing and Linguistics is unique as the only free-standing writing department in the State of Georgia, and one of only a handful of writing-only departments nationally. The Department has a national presence in the profession, having served as host to the 2012 IWAC Conference on writing across the curriculum, the 2013 annual gathering of the Council of Writing Program Administrators (CWPA), the annual Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy, the annual Success in Student Writing Conference, and other similar initiatives. The Department is also home to a local site of the National Writing Project and to an active university writing center. Our mission is to contribute to the cultural, technological, and social lives of graduates and the communities in which they live by providing a unique, interdisciplinary program that combines theoretical knowledge of language usage and structure with practical writing skills in multiple genres. Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the Assistant Professor of Writing and Linguistics requires teaching, research, and service. The position is a tenure-track appointment typically teaching three courses per term (six courses per year), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Summer teaching is optional but available.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in composition and rhetoric or closely-related field relevant to the Department of Writing and Linguistics, with a specialization in writing assessment, by August 1, 2016.
- Active scholarly agenda, preferably in writing and/or assessment.
- At least one year of college-level teaching experience in the writing classroom (experience as a graduate assistant is acceptable)
- Peer-reviewed national presentations in the field(s) of composition, assessment, rhetoric, or similar areas.
- Experience and/or familiarity with general education and related outcomes.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
Preferred Qualifications (any combination of the following):
- Evidence of teaching excellence in college-level writing or full-time college-level teaching experience.
- Peer-reviewed publications, especially in the area of writing assessment.
- Experience or participation within the National Writing Project.
- Experience with technologies common to the field of composition and rhetoric.
- Evidence of engaged student learning, arising from pedagogical practice informed by the scholarship of the profession.
- Leadership or experience in a first-year writing program, writing center, or program assessment.
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds.
- Experience teaching online
