The Department of History in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2016, subject to final budgetary approval. The area of specialization is urban history (excluding Canada and the United States), time period open. We seek candidates whose work analyzes key historical issues in the development, cultures, economies, and/or politics of urban formations and their populations.
Candidates will hold a PhD in history or in a related field. Candidates must have a strong and highly innovative research profile in urban history (e.g., evidence of an established or emerging scholarly record, and ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program), and they must provide evidence of high-quality teaching abilities and student training, together with a capacity for collegial service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of an urban-focused History MA, which is in development, and must show capacity to contribute to graduate teaching and supervision. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to join Ryerson’s interdisciplinary degree programs, including the BA in Arts and Contemporary Studies, the MA in Immigration and Settlement Studies, and the MA/PhD in Communication and Culture. We particularly welcome applications from those who would add to the department’s existing strengths in teaching and scholarship and contribute to Ryerson’s current city-building initiatives.
