The Department invites applications for Assistant Professorship(s) / Research Assistant Professorship(s) in
(A) contemporary China and the world OR
(B) modern China and overseas networks (with specializations in women's / gender history, urban history, social history, comparative history, or other research areas).
Appointment to the appropriate rank will be considered with reference to the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Applicants should (i) possess a PhD degree from a reputable university; (ii) be able to teach effectively courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in (A) contemporary China / contemporary world OR (B) modern China; (iii) have undertaken research in the aforementioned field(s); (iv) be able to publish research output with international impact; (v) be able to obtain external competitive research grants; (vi) be capable of intellectual leadership; (vii) be proficient in English and Chinese; and (viii) have good potential for academic administration.
The appointee(s) will (a) teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (b) participate in independent and joint research programmes; (c) serve on undergraduate and postgraduate thesis/dissertation committees; and (d) provide service at Departmental, Faculty and/or University levels.
Appointment(s) will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing January 2016, which, subject to funding, performance and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later (substantiation is not applicable to Research Assistant Professorship). For the post of Research Assistant Professor, prospect of contract renewal will also depend on research performance with consistent success in securing external competitive grants as Principal Investigator.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
Salary will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including medical care, plus a contract-end gratuity for appointment(s) of two years or longer and housing benefits for eligible appointees.
