The CRCS is seeking a Program Manager for the Mapping Chinese Spiritual Capital Project, a three-year initiative to expand the social scientific study of religion in China. We will pursue three interrelated goals: mapping the religious landscape and the changing religious markets in China; assessing spiritual capital in the emerging civil society; and nourishing the growing field through publishing first-rate research in a new journal, the Review of Religion and Chinese Society.
The Program Manager will coordinate international conferences that will bring together committee members, advisors, and invited scholars in the United States, Europe, and China. In addition, the successful applicant will supervise research assistants, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scholars, including arranging lecture series or planning symposia at Purdue. The Program Manager will also develop and maintain bilingual publicity and fundraising materials of the Center, and she or he will help submit periodic reports related to the Mapping Chinese Spiritual Capital Project.

JOB DUTIES
The successful candidate in this position is expected to: Manage the planning, preparation, and execution of international conferences to be held at Purdue, Hong Kong, or China, including coordinating with the planning committee members, advisors, and invited scholars in the United States, Europe, and China, arranging conference logistics, preparing publicity materials (newsletters, brochures, flyers, posters, etc.), working with the webmaster to develop a bilingual website dedicated to the study of Chinese religion, etc. supervise research assistants, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scholars, including arranging lecture series or planning symposia at Purdue. Develop and maintain bilingual publicity and fundraising materials of the Center. Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director or Associate Director. Draft progress reports for the sponsored projects. Help to develop new research and exchange programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Master's degree in Chinese or Asian Studies, or Sociology of religion.
• One year of experience related to event/conference/administrative scheduling/planning.
• Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and project management skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Ability to effectively work with diverse groups of people from all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with others.
• Willingness to travel abroad.
• Excellent English, grammar, writing skills, utmost attention to detail.
• Oral and written Mandarin Chinese.
• A valid US or Canadian driver’s license is necessary for employment in this position.
Preferred:
• PhD.
• Experience with any of the following: proposal or grant writing, reporting (compilation, generation, creation, maintenance of); creating newsletters and other miscellaneous forms of media.
• Previous research of the religious traditions of China.
