The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Project Research Assistant in its’ Department of Architecture and Design to assist senior curators with research tasks in preparation for an upcoming Frank Lloyd Wright exhibition and accompanying publication. This is a grant funded position with an expected duration of 12 months with a renewal for a second year.
Specific responsibilities are as follows:
Performs research for the exhibition, including research on works on paper from the Frank Lloyd Wright Archive located at Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library at Columbia University. Assists in catalog preparation and in the preparation of checklists, loan agreement forms, and related educational materials, from compiling to writing, and scheduling work to be done within the Museum as a liaison with various internal departments as well as external contacts at the Avery Library.
Compiles, organizes, formats, and edits catalog data for completeness and accuracy.
Obtains image rights for publication, print, and digital use, doing research and written correspondence with external parties when needed.
Assists with a variety of other editorial, administrative, and organizational tasks for the exhibition.
Ensures that schedules are maintained and deadlines are met.
Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s degree or equivalent graduate work in art history or architecture, with a specialization in American architecture and specific knowledge of the career of Frank Lloyd Wright, his architectural works, and relevant current and historical scholarship. Experience as an academic or institutional research assistant required. Experience working with architectural plans, drawings, and related correspondence or art collections. Familiarity with researching archives, securing copyright permissions and clearing image rights. Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills. Highly motivated. Strict attention to detail, rigorous approach to tasks. Strong initiative and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. Familiarity with catalog entry using The Museum System (TMS) required.
