The Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies in Arts and Science at New York University, a Title VI institution, invites applicants for a Clinical Assistant Professor position. This is a full-time, renewable non-tenure track position to start September 1, 2015, pending budgetary and administrative approval.
We are interested in a scholar whose field of research and teaching is in politics, culture, or social sciences of the modern Middle East, and who has demonstrated research and teaching experience. The ideal candidate has an in-depth understanding of the modern Middle East, knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language, and has a Ph.D. in one of the following fields: Anthropology, Comparative Middle Eastern Studies, Contemporary Middle Eastern History, Cultural Studies, Politics/Political Economy, Sociology, or Urban Studies/Geography. The appointee will be expected to teach at the graduate level (mostly 2-year program MAs and some PhDs), advise MA students, organize and run MA-thesis workshops, and participate in the activities of the Kevorkian Center. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, excellence in teaching and advising, and a willingness to partake in administrative duties.
