Bilkent University is seeking applications and nominations for the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Letters (FHL).
The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader with experience in academic administration, excellent interpersonal skills and vision for a young but already accomplished Faculty, as well as a researcher whose accomplishments merit appointment as full professor at Bilkent. Speaking Turkish is not a requirement.
Job description: The Dean is the highest administrative officer of the Faculty. As such, he/she simultaneously presents the Faculty's views on various matters to the broader university and the university administration's vision to the Faculty. He/she will oversee the planning, implementation and administration of all academic and administrative affairs of the Faculty, importantly including leading hiring at the junior and senior levels with an eye towards both advancing scholarly activity and creation and modification of academic programs.
About Bilkent and FHL: Bilkent, located in Ankara, is Turkey's most established private university and a leading institution of research and higher learning in Europe. It is a vibrant international community in which the language of instruction is English across the university. FHL currently accommodates 770 undergraduate and 60 graduate students. The Faculty is composed of the Departments of American Culture and Literature, Archaeology, English Language and Literature, Philosophy, Translation and Interpretation, and Turkish Literature, as well as the Program in Cultures, Civilizations, and Ideas. The Faculty is research-oriented but is also devoted to excellence in teaching, and provides public service nationally and internationally.
