Position: | Visiting Assistant Professor |
Saint Francis University’s Department of History and Political Science invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Public History and modern U.S. history, beginning autumn 2015. There is a possibility that this position will become a tenure-track position.
Though the normal teaching load in the department is 4-4, this position’s duties consist of teaching two courses per semester while assisting the department and university in cataloging, preparing for public use and possibly preparing some public exhibitions of a large new collection of items related to World War II that the university has acquired. The successful candidate will also assist with preparation of grant applications for the preservation of the collection.
Ph.D. expected by time of appointment. The ideal candidate will have experience in public history and/or museum work. Expertise in military history and/or military collections would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be expected to offer the second half of the U.S. history survey (1877 to the present). In addition, the successful candidate will offer courses in his/her area of specialty, including lower and/or upper-division undergraduate courses for History majors and General Education students. The candidate may open new courses, and/or may teach courses currently on the books, such as “World War II: Origins and Aftermath,” “America in the Cold War Era,” “The Vietnam War.” A course on Public History would be welcome.
In addition to an ongoing research agenda, candidates should demonstrate a track record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and a commitment to student advising and service to the department/university. The candidate should demonstrate interest in and capability to administer the World War II collection in such a way as to best engage undergraduate students and the broader community.
