The IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, located in Indianapolis, seeks to fill an endowed chair in the area of international philanthropic studies beginning summer of 2014 or a date to be negotiated. The chair holder will also serve as Director of International Programs at the School for at least half time.
As a faculty member, the Stead Family Chair holder will provide intellectual leadership in international philanthropy through active research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels; as the Director, the incumbent will develop and articulate the School’s strategic vision for international philanthropy. The exact distribution of effort will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
A Ph.D. (or doctorate in a professional field) and significant international experience are required along with the ability to adapt prior work to philanthropic studies (broadly defined). Candidates are encouraged to review the School’s website and faculty roster for insights into the interdisciplinary nature of philanthropic studies and the ways in which many disciplines contribute to an understanding of philanthropy, civil society, and nonprofit organizations worldwide.
The Director of International Programs will develop and manage the School’s strategic plan for international initiatives, relations with other institutions, student exchanges and international recruitment, and scholarly interactions. Working closely with an advisory committee, the Director will coordinate the School’s international work with other Indiana University schools and campuses to leverage IUPUI and IU’s outstanding international assets.

Valuing candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving the conditions in higher education for under-represented students, the School encourages candidates from under-represented groups to apply.
The search will remain open until the position is filled. Candidates are expected to review the School’s website and faculty roster for insights into the interdisciplinary nature of philanthropic studies and the ways in which many disciplines contribute to an understanding of philanthropy, civil society, and nonprofit organizations worldwide.
