The Faculty of History is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in American History, who has outstanding abilities in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating research community in the American History Subject Group, which performs to the highest international levels in research and publications and is supported by the resources of the Mellon Fund. The post is available from 1 September 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The appointee will be an outstanding scholar and teacher in the history of colonial North America and/or the United States, with preference given to the 1865-1929 period. Research of international standing will be expected. The post-holder will be encouraged to build collaborative research programmes as well as to conduct his/her own individual research. He or she will teach and examine at all levels from undergraduate to PhD and will be expected to play a full part in the administrative work of the Faculty of History.
The Faculty welcomes applications from both early career scholars and those who already have established careers. By the start of appointment the successful candidate must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a related field.
The Lecturer will be based in central Cambridge. Appointments will be for a probationary period of 5 years with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance.
