Renewable Term Assistant Professor in Race, Gender, and Difference in Science, Engineering, or Medicine at the University of Oklahoma
The Department of the History of Science at the University of Oklahoma is seeking a Ranked Renewable-Term Assistant Professor in the area of race, gender, and difference in science, engineering, or medicine. The position will run for three years, beginning August 16, 2015, with renewal for the second and third years being contingent upon successful performance. Duties will include teaching one graduate and four undergraduate courses per year. The anticipated salary will be $50,000 per year, plus benefits.
The successful candidate will have completed her/his PhD in the history of science, technology or medicine, history, STS, or related fields before August 16, 2015. We seek candidates who are able to teach courses on the intersectionality of race, gender, and difference from historical and/or STS perspectives. Research interests should engage deeply with race, gender, or difference in the context of science, engineering, or medicine.
The successful candidate must be prepared to provide a historical dimension in all courses taught. Some of the courses the successful candidate might teach include: “Race and Science,”“Science, Exploration, and Empire,”“Social and Ethical Issues in Science, Technology, Environment, and Medicine,”and “Gender and Science,”as well as graduate seminars in the lecturer’s area of research specialty.
As a faculty member in the Department of the History of Science, the successful candidate will have access to the University of Oklahoma’s History of Science collections, a premier research collection in the field. With holdings of nearly 100,000 volumes from every field and subject area in the history of science, technology, and medicine including numerous rare manuscripts and books, the collections provide outstanding resources for faculty to advance research and to offer one-of-a-kind learning experiences to our students.
