The Department of Germanic Studies teaches language to beginners and advanced (A1-C2), and offers study options in German film, literature, culture and history from the 17th century to the present. Exchange programs with universities in Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Cologne, Freiburg and Constance provide exciting opportunities and open the door to career opportunities both in Australia and overseas.
Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Germanic Studies (Academic Level B) in the Department of Germanic Studies. The successful applicant will teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate levels and help coordinate and promote programs. Applicants will be expected to make a contribution to the department's teaching and research program and contribute to professional collaborations in the field.
To succeed in this role you will:
- have a PhD in German Studies
- demonstrate near native fluency in German and English
- have experience in designing and teaching German-language courses with demonstrated success in promoting student retention and achieving high levels of language competency
- demonstrate a good record of peer-reviewed publications relative to opportunity
- demonstrate the ability, relative to opportunity, to develop and maintain an active research program including research grant applications
- demonstrate evidence of capacity to work flexibly and collaborating in a team environment, to teach at different levels and assume roles in administration and planning in the department and school.
Desirable
- experience in e-learning including developing blended and fully online modules
- a record of successful research student supervision
- demonstrated administrative skills.
Remuneration package Lecturer: $110K – $131K p.a. (which includes a base salary Level B $93K – $111K p.a. leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
