The Department of Middle Eastern South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University announces an opening in Persian language instruction to be filled at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, beginning July 1, 2015. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewals contingent on successful reviews.
We are seeking a professional language teacher with a serious commitment to teaching languages for academic purposes as well as developing pedagogical materials and incorporating technological innovations into the curriculum. Preference will be given to those with a solid grounding in Persian humanities. Responsibilities will include teaching 6 courses per year and performing other duties for the Persian language program such as curriculum development and language placement.
A Ph.D. in Persian is preferred, but those with a Master's degree and considerable language teaching experience are encouraged to apply. Salary and rank commensurate with experience.
Native or near-native fluency in Persian and English, foreign language instruction experience, and an oral proficiency based approach are required.
