The Department of History at McMaster University invites applications for the L.R. Wilson Chair in Canadian History. Candidates must currently hold a tenured position at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor and have a research specialization in Canadian History. The L.R. Wilson Chair also serves as the Director of the L.R. Wilson Institute for Canadian History. Over the last ten years, the Wilson Institute has built a reputation as the premier historical research institute in the country. As Director, the L.R. Wilson Chair manages the Institute's research and events budgets and provides leadership for its staff and associated scholars, including a team of post-doctoral fellows.
McMaster University is a student-centred research intensive university. The Wilson Institute for Canadian History will soon move to dedicated research and office space in a new Arts building scheduled to open in 2015. The successful candidate will have a strong record of excellence in teaching and research, with a continuing program of research and publication. The Wilson Chair will be expected to participate in the life of the History Department and contribute to all aspects of the Department's programs.
The starting date for the appointment will be 1 July 2015; salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
