The History Department at the University of Oklahoma is applying to become the new institutional headquarters for the Western Historical Quarterly (WHQ), the journal of the Western History Association (WHA). The department seeks to hire a colleague in any field and period related to North American Wests, frontiers, homelands, and borderlands who is interested in assuming the editorship. The successful candidate must be both selected by the OU History Department and approved by the WHA, and would then become a tenured member of the department at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank; serve five-year renewable terms as editor; and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (1:1 load during editorship). Position is scheduled to begin August 15, 2015. Interested candidates should submit: a cover letter outlining scholarly and teaching interests; a vision statement for the WHQ; and a CV, including contact information for three references. The department’s primary areas of doctoral emphasis include North American West, American Indian, and Environmental history.
