Campus Specific Information
The Office of Human Resources (OHR) supports the Graduate Center's (GC) mission through the provision of high quality human resources and labor relations services. The OHR serves full and part-time employees of The Graduate Center, the School of Professional Studies, the Graduate School of Journalism, the Macaulay Honors College and the School of Public Health. The OHR team is committed in providing full support to all internal and external constituents including access to employment-related information, CUNY/GC policies and time and leave policies and procedures. Confidentiality, discretion, and sensitivity are paramount in OHR operations.
Under supervision of the HR Systems Administrator and Deputy HR System Administrator, the IT Support Assistant performs a range of HR systems-focused assignments exercising confidentiality, discretion, and attention to detail. S/he assists in the routine operation and technical support of the Banner HR and CUNYfirst HR modules.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Troubleshoots technical issues related to the Banner Self-Serve application.
- As directed, makes minor adjustments and implements routine technical updates to Banner HR hardware and software.
- Assists in the maintenance and update of the Human Resources website.
- Communicates with technology users and other technology staff to understand details of work assignments and the nature of problems; may log or document problem reports; informs supervisor for repairs; may perform simple repairs.
- May enter data into, or operate systems in performing work, including problem logs and help-desk systems.
- Maintains departmental records; keeps separate confidential records when instructed.
- Retrieves and formats computerized data.
- Provides information, as directed, to faculty, students, employees, and the general public on technical issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
General Duties
I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.
Work tasks include as:
-Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment
-Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems
-Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
2. Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
Other Qualifications:
A preferred candidate should have:
- Two years IT experience
- Knowledge of Oracle (including PeopleSoft) databases, Banner, and PAYSERV
- Working knowledge of Excel and/or Access
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to exercise independent thinking and judgment in sensitive matters
- Ability to prioritize, establish, and meet goals and milestones, including the ability to make judgment calls and to respond tactfully in all situations
