GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Office of the Provost is seeking a professional to play a leadership role in the university’s ongoing efforts to make the undergraduate student body more diverse and in helping to foster an inclusive campus community that attracts and supports diversity in many forms.
Under the direction of the Associate Provost for Enrollment, the successful candidate will:
- Develop contacts and foster relationships with high school and community college personnel.
- Communicate directly with prospective students and parents. Help them understand and navigate the admissions and financial aid process and serve as a personal contact for recruits and applicants. Provide a high level of personal attention for highly sought-after applicants.
- Collaborate with Admissions in off-campus recruitment efforts, such as college fairs, counselor breakfasts, and hotel receptions.
- Collaborate with colleges and departments to coordinate their diversity recruitment and retention efforts with those of Enrollment Management.
- Enlist UMass Amherst students, faculty, staff, and alumni to assist in the Enrollment Management recruitment and retention efforts.
- Collaborate with the Enrollment Management leadership team to define and coordinate undergraduate recruitment efforts and marketing materials to reach our underrepresented student populations.
- Train admissions staff (recruiters, tour guides, visitor center employees, open house workers) and others directly involved in the recruitment process on ways to best present the diversity of the university, as well as how to talk about the value of a diverse campus community.
- Review undergraduate applications.
- Travel throughout the Northeast to visit high schools, college fairs, community events, etc.
- Serve as Enrollment Management’s representative for matters related to diversity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in higher education, multicultural education, communications, or a related field. Five to seven years’ experience in undergraduate student recruitment or in a diversity/recruitment related position. Ability to effectively work with students, parents, outside agencies and university administrators. Applicants must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
