The College at Old Westbury invites applications for a tenure-track position in American Studies, at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective Fall 2015. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand, or have an anticipated completion date of August 1, 2015 or sooner, in the area of American Studies or a related field, with a focus on the study of race and ethnicity and/or the U.S. in a global context. Candidates specializing in contemporary immigration, transnational American Studies and/or comparative race and ethnicity are particularly encouraged to apply. A focus on questions of community-based activism, social justice and/or human equality preferred. Candidates with experience in the digital humanities and/or media studies are also preferred. Experience teaching an ethnically diverse, working student body preferred.
Principal responsibilities include teaching Contemporary U.S. Society and the American Studies seminar as well as other American Studies courses, including survey courses, upper division courses, senior capping courses and college General Education courses. Professional responsibilities include consistently good teaching, scholarly activities (publications, conference papers, grant writing, etc.), student advisement, and college and departmental service.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
