History Associates has a need for graduate students pursuing an MLS/MSI/MSIS degree with a specialization in Archives, Records, and Information Management to process series in a medium-sized archival collection at our main office in Rockville, MD.
Working under the supervision of the Project Manager, the students will implement a pre-established processing plan in accordance with project guidelines. Tasks include: arrangement, general preservation activities, development of finding aid components including scope and content, series descriptions, and container lists.
Interns are expected to work a minimum of 120 hours and will be paid $10.00 per hour. Interns are not eligible for any benefits offered by History Associates which includes paid time off.
Education Requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Masters of Library Science or Information Science program with a specialization in Archives, Records, and Information Management. Candidates should have completed at least one foundational course in archival principles. Those pursuing their degree online are encouraged to apply.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of basic archival principles (arrangement, description, cataloging, creating hierarchies)
- Exercise discretion, initiative, and judgment
- Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and Excel
