The Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies at Appalachian State University invites applications for the Leon Levine Distinguished Professor of Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies.
The applicant’s academic specialization is open. A Ph.D. is required. The successful candidate will be ranked at the associate professor or preferably at the full professor level and will be appointed to an appropriate academic department within the College of Arts and Sciences, which includes history, sociology, anthropology, English, philosophy and religion, and foreign languages and literature, among others. Preference will be given to those who can teach courses on the Holocaust, German/European history, and Jewish studies.
The successful candidate will direct the Center, teach one course per semester, and receive reassigned time for research. Applicants should demonstrate active scholarship, administrative competence, and engaged teaching. In addition, candidates are sought who have a willingness to interact with members of the community. Familiarity in fundraising is a valued strength. A commitment to the summer Holocaust symposium, the premier teacher-training activity of the Center, is required. This is an 11-month contract.
