The Department of Political Science and Global Affairs seeks an Assistant Professor for a tenure track position in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, or related field to support the undergraduate program in political science and also the Master of Public Administration degree, which is presently in the planning stages. The start date for the position is August, 2015. The successful candidate will be qualified to teach many of the core graduate-level courses in public administration including research methods and support offerings in the subfield of American politics for the undergraduate program. Undergraduate responsibilities include, in partnership with senior colleagues, managing the campus faculty liaison role for the CUNY Rogowski Internship Program in Government and Public Affairs. Field specialization is open. The candidate will be expected to play an important role in the formation, development, and recruitment for the new graduate program as well as perform departmental and college service and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.
The College of Staten Island is a leading publicly funded unit of The City University of New York (CUNY) located in the fastest growing borough of New York City. It is a comprehensive liberal arts and technology institution with a commuter student population and a group of students living in dormitories on campus. CSI is home to the CUNY High Performance Computing Center and outstanding computational assets are available for research purposes, including a broad portfolio of statistical tools and social science data resources.
A Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, or related field at the time of appointment is required. The successful candidate will have an active and ambitious research and publication agenda, and demonstrate the breadth required to teach many of the core courses in the MPA program and undergraduate program effectively. Research interests in subject areas related to urban affairs are of particular interest to the committee. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
