The History Department at SUNY Geneseo invites applications for a full time, tenure track position for an Assistant Professor in Islamic History. The position will begin in August 2015.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in history at the time of appointment or expected by August 2015, evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and evidence of scholarly potential. Candidates should be prepared to teach a range of introductory and upper-level undergraduate history courses, including a two-semester introductory survey on Islamic History intended for both history majors and general education students, specialized regional or topical courses, and seminars in historical research methods and/or historiography. In addition to history courses, candidates will be expected to contribute to interdisciplinary general education courses by teaching sections of the College's First Year Writing seminar and both courses in the College's Western Humanities general education sequence. Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and research situates Islamic history in transnational or global contexts, whose teaching interests support interdisciplinary programs at the College such as Asian Studies, Africana/Black Studies, Environmental Studies, or Women's and Gender Studies, and who can develop courses in pre-1800 topics.
