FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, conducts research, teaches at undergraduate and/or graduate levels, contributing to academic programs in a specialized discipline. This is a non-tenure track position of limited duration.

The Graduate Center is devoted to advancing original research and training graduate students in over 30 fields in the humanities, social sciences and sciences.
The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, the principal Ph.D. granting institution of CUNY, announces a postdoctoral fellowship in the Nursing Ph.D. Program. The fellow's area of research will broadly address the shortage of faculty, especially research faculty, who can build the science to improve patient care, inform health policy, and provide cutting-edge knowledge to the discipline. The goal of the nursing postdoctoral fellowship program is to prepare researchers committed to understanding and addressing critical issues in health human resources and the recruitment and retention of the nursing workforce, including examining issues related to the planning and management of nursing health services to ensure high quality, safe care in a variety of settings. The program of research is aimed at developing healthy and supportive work environments that optimize both nurse and patient health. The Postdoctoral Fellow will report to the Executive Officer. Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Educational training: create an individualized curriculum plan to address substantive, conceptual, and methodological areas relevant to the fellow's needs and objectives for post-doctoral education, to support fellows in acquiring skills and knowledge required to conduct independent research and analysis of issues and problems related to health human resources optimization.
2. Research Training: develop and implement independent research with the guidance and mentorship of an expert nurse researcher from the Graduate Center Nursing PhD Program. Research training will also include support for travel to scientific meetings and workshops related to the trainee's research interests and research training needs.
3. Professional Development Training: provide mentorship and resources for career planning and preparation for an academic or research career. Resources will address project management, training in grant writing and other skills necessary for success as an independent investigator with an established program of research.
4. A Faculty Appointment: The postdoctoral fellow will be appointed as a Visiting Assistant Professor and will teach at least 3 credits per semester in the Nursing PhD Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in one of the disciplines in the nursing or humanistic social sciences. Candidates who received their Ph.D. in 2011 at the earliest, or who have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by the application deadline are preferred.
