Insignia Films is looking for recent or current graduate students with a background in Twentieth Century American history and a displayed interest in World War I, to work full or part-time on a four-part PBS television series about America's role in WWI. The job description (and salary) may vary depending on candidates' interests and experience but will include story and script research, identifying interviewees and general consultation with the series director and writer. This is a wonderful opportunity for students with an interest in applying their knowledge in a non-academic setting. It also may provide a good stepping-stone to a career in film and television.
Below is a brief project description. Please send a cover letter along with a CV via email to honeycutt@insigniafilms.com. Also, please reference where you saw this listing.
Project Description:
America and the Great War is an ambitious four-part series for PBS's acclaimed history series, American Experience, which explores the United States' experience in the First World War. Led by the soaring rhetoric of Woodrow Wilson’s vision of a new world order, the United States entry into the war triggered both an eruption of nationalist pride, and a renewed belief in the power of American exceptionalism. The great conflict would fundamentally change the nature of American society, undermining the progressive movement, giving birth to the national security state, reordering the place of women and African-Americans in the culture, and changing the government’s role in almost every aspect of the American economy. In a larger sense, the experience of World War I forever changed the way the nation saw itself and its place in the world. The repercussions of this moment define us to this day.
