The Honors College at Texas Tech University (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/ ) seeks a broadly trained Ph.D. in international relations/comparative politics, or a related field, with a specialization in Middle East, Africa or Asia (broadly defined). The position comes with a requirement to teach introductory courses in US and/or Texas politics. The successful applicant will participate in the Honors Arts and Letters (HAL) degree program. The HAL program (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/hal/index.php ) provides students with a foundation in the Humanities and offers specific tracks of concentration, including Pre-Med and Pre-Law.
The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of teaching expertise and experience. Applicants must also provide evidence of scholarly activity, including a commitment to the pursuit of external funding for research support. The person hired in this position will be expected to contribute to the value-added co-curricular activities delivered by the Honors College, such as mentoring undergraduate research, directing Honors theses, and sponsoring student organizations in addition to other service expectations. Service to the university is also expected.
This is a tenure-track appointment. Salary is competitive with rank and experience.
The Honors College at Texas Tech University offers students a small, liberal arts college experience within the context of a large, public research university, providing outstanding academic and extracurricular opportunities for those students who are intellectually curious and capable. Honors College classes are small, discussion-based, and interdisciplinary. Many courses and seminars feature special topics that promote active learning. Approximately 1,000 undergraduates are members of the Honors College.
