The Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Studies Education at PSU invites applications for a tenure track assistant or associate professor faculty position for candidates with a terminal degree to assume leadership of the B.S. in Social Studies Education program. Anticipated starting date is preferably Spring semester 2015 but Fall 2015 is also a possibility.
Responsibilities include:
- Serving as coordinator for the Social Studies Education program.
- Teaching undergraduate courses in the Social Studies Education curriculum.
- Advising Social Studies Education students.
- Developing and participating in clinical partnerships.
- Working with clinical faculty and cooperating teachers.
- Conducting outreach to secondary schools.
- Working with the Office of Teacher Preparation for ongoing accreditation documentation and preparation.
- Collaborating with faculty for the National History Day New Hampshire program.
- May include supervision of student teachers in secondary social studies, travel to field placements.
- May include teaching within the General Education program.
The successful candidate must have a commitment to a clinical model of teacher education, active involvement in school-university partnerships, and ongoing development of clinical experiences for teacher candidates. In the fall semesters, the position requires active leadership to support a new partnership initiative between Plymouth State University and a regional high school which includes clinical work and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate required in Social Studies Education or related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have doctorate in hand by the time of appointment.
- University teaching experience.
- Secondary teaching experience.
- Experience with online learning platforms and a willingness to explore new teaching technologies.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- A desire to work as part of a team in the department and within the College.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience in clinical settings with Social Studies Education Interns/Student Teachers.
- An understanding of Universal Design principals
- Experience with outcome-based learning portfolios.
- Familiarity with NCATE/CAEP standards for social studies teacher education.
- Experience in program leadership.
- Three or more years secondary teaching experience.
- Three or more years full-time teaching in a university setting.
- Experience in program evaluation.
- A demonstrated record of engagement in research and related scholarly activities.
