The Department of Performance Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University seeks a Department Head with research and administrative expertise. Exceptional and suitably qualified candidates may be considered for an endowed position in the College of Liberal Arts.
The Department of Performance Studies currently houses individual B.A. programs in Music and Theatre, and an M.A. program in Performance Studies; in Fall 2015 we expect to begin recruiting students into a single B.A. in Performance Studies. Existing research strengths include ethnography (music and theatre), music technology, music composition, inquiry-based performance, performance history, and performance theory. We seek an energetic and dynamic department head who will oversee the development of an innovative B.A. curriculum and lead initiatives in interdisciplinary research and creative activity. The area of research specialization is open. Candidates must have a commitment to the integration of performance practice and theory, interdisciplinary approaches to performance, and substantial experience in program development.
The successful candidate must have a terminal, doctoral degree (such as a Ph.D. or D.M.A.) and a substantial record of nationally prominent artistic and/or scholarly achievement for appointment as a tenured faculty member at the rank of advanced Associate Professor or Professor. In addition to administrative experience, the successful candidate must be able to pursue a program of research, teaching, and service commensurate with other Texas A&M faculty. Knowledge of undergraduate curricula in music, theatre, and/or performance studies, support of undergraduate creative work, graduate teaching and supervision, commitment to national standards for creative and scholarly work, experience in undergraduate and graduate student recruiting, a demonstrated ability in program development, and a commitment to diversity are essential.
