Administrative Coordinator - CUNY Start – Job ID #10843
GENERAL DUTIES:
Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.
Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.
Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.
Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.
Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.
Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.
May supervise office staff and student workers.
Performs related duties as assigned.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
CUNY Start is an intensive program for incoming college students, both high school and GED graduates, who need to increase their academic proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics prior to enrollment in college credit classes. The CUNY Office of Academic Affairs, six of the University's seven community colleges, Medgar Evers College and the College of Staten Island work collaboratively to provide students with an innovative approach to developmental education. CUNY Start is recognized for its carefully designed curriculum and pedagogy, ongoing professional development and a supportive approach to student development.
CUNY Start has proven to be highly effective at reducing and/or eliminating students' remedial needs within one semester because of the attention given to each component of the program, advisement, mathematics and reading/writing. In FY 13, CUNY Start served approximately 1,600 students at 7 campuses. In FY14, CUNY Start expanded its full-time and part-time programs at nearly all CUNY Start campuses with the goal of serving 3,200 students. With an enrollment goal of 900 students a year, CUNY Start at BMCC offers classes day and evening with full time and part time schedules available
Reporting to the campus CUNY Start Director, the Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for all data collection and office administration functions in this fast paced, student centered environment.
Other duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Uses standard office software programs/applications in proficient manner.
Works in consultation with the Director to produce a recruitment calendar.
Maintains recruitment tracking report and issues reports as needed.
Handles all logistical tasks including brochures and flyers within and outside the college.
Evening hours are required
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will have the following professional and business core competencies:
Demonstrated experience successfully managing office functions in an academic, community based, or related field
Experience working with linguistically, culturally, and academically diverse students
Strong work ethic, character, personal integrity, and ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
Detail oriented with strong organizational, writing, proofreading, and editing skills with solid analytical, evaluative, and research skills
Ability to work well in a time-sensitive, dynamic, student centered and responsive office
Experience working in collaborative settings preferred
SALARY: $38,407 - $41,623
