The Africana Studies Program is seeking a qualified candidate for a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2014-15 academic year, with the possibility of renewal.
We are looking for an interdisciplinary scholar and teacher in the areas of Comparative Global African Diaspora.
Required Qualifications include: Ph.D. by August 1, 2014 in one of the following disciplines: African or Africana Studies, History, Journalism/Mass Communication, Digital Humanities, Anthropology, Comparative Literature, English, French/Francophone Studies, Political Science or other closely related fields. We seek a candidate with demonstrated evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Preference will be given to those with experience or an aptitude of using a variety of innovative teaching methods, and/or curricular perspectives to respond to the needs of a diverse student body and who have demonstrated strong commitment to research and publication.
In addition to teaching three courses per semester, the successful candidate is expected to participate in student advising, curriculum development, service, and program building. The candidate selected will be expected to actively recruit and mentor Africana Studies majors.
The Africana Studies Program prepares future leaders of a global and diverse economy from North and Latin America to Africa and Europe. It offers an interdisciplinary major, a minor in hip-hop cultures, and a variety of internships and study abroad opportunities. The program embraces new technologies and is a leader in online offerings and digital humanities.
This is a full-time and benefits-eligible position that will begin in August 2014. Review of applications will commence on April 1, 2014 and Skype interviews will be conducted shortly thereafter. The position will remain open until filled.
